Because we went back to the states to see the kids, we packed light, and I realized I could do some importing, given all the extra luggage space... (no, we don't pay for baggage...) My friends gave me their shopping lists, and did I have fun! There's just a hint of Mexican-food substitutes in Nova Scotia, so I brought back:
1 Case of super delicious tortilla chips
2 Bags of corn tortillas - 30 each
10 tins of Chipotle Peppers in Adobo sauce
22 tins of Diced Green chilis
8 tins of Guava Paste (delicious with cheeses and crackers)
(and an assortment of spices from the Mexican grocery and a Middle Eastern grocery)
Dinner tonight was Mexican Pizza...
a crisp fried corn tortilla topped with
refried beans
hamburger/sauteed onion/chipotle peppers
diced tomatoes
olives
shredded cheese
(run under the broiler to melt the cheese)
and top with green onion & serve with a dallop of guacamole (made fresh)
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you forget to pair this with a Margarita!
Sobroso! (I taught 2 y-o Bodhi that word because he loves guacamole so much! He'll say slowly, "So-BRO-so" followed by, "Broso-broso-broso!!)
@seattle You know where to find us! It's a bit lacking for "gritty street photography", but it excels in every other way! Did you see we just had our 5th round of 365ers come by? Haven't met a one I didn't like!
@Weezilou I know what you mean, I have been to London and Paris and everyone I have met has been amazing from 365. Someday I may make it up in the summer! Ha!
@ceilidh You'd always be welcome, Margaret! It was a taste treat to be sure, for those of us deprived of Mexican food up here!
@danette haha! As a matter of fact, I did! I packed nearly all my purchases tightly into one box, taped it up, and put the box in a suitcase. We put our jacket and sweater around it, and that was our allotted 50#! (Used to be we could bring 3/75# suitcases on the plane...which was awesome when we were first moving here...I drug up a ton of stuff! Now it's 2/50# bags, but what fun it was to take things to the grand kids and import food goods on the way back!)
@danette The case of chips (8 bags) were left in their delivery box as I bought them that way from the store...I think the man who got them for me from the back didn't get requests like that very often! I shipped that box "as is" and it went from Chicago to California and then back to Nova Scotia...and came through great!
Sounds and looks all delicious to me. ( I`m not allowed in the kitchen from Ina only for cleaning the fresh fish , I`m not familiar with you list. I think I like it .)
