The nasturtium bed has set a wonderful carpet of color for the iris that are blooming (out of frame) and about to bloom. And now the epiphyllum has burst forth with a saucer-sized gorgeous pink bloom and a bud that will be open by tomorrow. The close-ups can wait...I'm liking the splash of color and shapes against the stucco wall!
Wow, this looks just amazing Louise, I was just in California on holiday and I saw the nasturtium growing wild along the coastline. That was so much fun to see for me, as my mom has always been planting them in her garden in the summertime, so it was interesting to see them growing wild in their natural habitat :) I have a lot of seeds that I'm gonna plant in my garden too. They don't grow quite as wildly here in in Denmark as it is so much cooler I guess, but they still turn out really pretty :)
You have such a beautiful garden Louise with so many different interesting corners! You have lots of lovely colour which is so cheerful! Who knows maybe I will sit and enjoy it with you one day! Lol! Fav!
Louise, this is gorgeous. You must have a real green thumb with your yards being so beautiful. Love nasturtiums. We always have them n abundance n our yards when I was growing up. Mom had the green thumb that I did not inherit!
Oh this is wonderful, everything about it is so pretty. That epiphillium is so unusual, is it a cactus or succulent? A sweet, sweet scene. I can see why the animals love your yard!
@louannwarren Thanks for the kind words, Lou Ann! I guess I get credit for planning where I want to plant flowers and what to trim from trees., and Ken enjoys the gardening. We got those epiphyllum *leaves* at a show down at Safari Park where we've met with other members of 365. That was years ago, and all we did was root the one leaf, and from that, they grew and produce these amazing flowers "once in a while!" I'm guessing they'd be part of the cactus family as they'd be related to Night Blooming Cereus as would be found in Hawaii. Most of the year they're not an especially attractive plant, but they remain a welcome member in the yard for the blooms that are quite spectacular! @aglennc That green thumb is Ken's, but I do talk to them and encourage them along! @lily Laerke, Nasturtiums are such a "funny" plant, place to place! You and your mom struggle to grow them, and yet, when we visited Madeira, Portugal, the tour guide pointed them out and said they were an invasive weed! (To me, a weed is just a plant that grows with no effort...take it or leave it!) Now that this patch is established this year, it will return every year until we dig it out (which I can't imagine why we would! The plants reseed themselves.) The blossoms are edible you know? I decorated a cheese plate with them a few days ago and it was lovely! Best still, you can be pretty sure they'll be there whenever you need them! Good luck growing yours!
