This pair has been hanging on these wires for a long time, at least since we moved into the area 4 years ago. Everyday I drive under it and think I should take a photo of it one day. That day turned out to be today
well - this is slightly different from the bird on a wire shot ;p it's very cool... love the angle and silhouette... immediately made me think of the movie "wag the dog" ;p

In centuries to come, I wonder what future archeologists will make of this strange yet common phenomenon? Love the lighting and angle.

Nice find and tones. Love seeing those.

There are a lot of these around and I always wondered who put them there, how and why.
My daughter tells me it indicates a house where drugs are sold, has anyone else heard this?

Cool shot

Very cool shot and story. Great POV
January 4th, 2013
Yes, I ofter wonder how shoes end up on wires - maybe the challenge to see if you can get them up there?
January 4th, 2013
I like the soft tones and angle. I always see those things somewhere on the street and wonder why people would do that.
January 4th, 2013
I had to do some research on that topic ;) There is an entire blog on Shoefiti. I guess there are many theories out why people do this. One thing for sure seems to be that it is a worldwide phenomenon http://www.shoefiti.com/

LOL I did the same a while back... there are 3 pairs near me...

@monika64 Yep I've heard that too... scarily enough, I've also heard that a nearby neighbour of mine is apparently one... so with 3 pairs of shoes near me... each at a different intersection/t junction closer and closer to him... it has made me really wonder about that.

The things you learn here ... definitely a cool twist on the bird on a wire photo. Can't say I've ever noticed an example of this, but I have seen three darts sticking out of a totem pole, about thirty feet up. :-)

I have seen similar shoes hanging, and wonder who takes the time to do it...
January 4th, 2013
Lol, cool shot.
January 4th, 2013
I like this shot. I have been looking for something similar, but not managed one yet. I like your sky colour. Was this a kind of natural colour, or did you process it like this?
January 5th, 2013
cool capture, close to my house there's a "tree of shoes", there's may be hundred pairs of shoeson it.... weird :)
January 5th, 2013
cool capture and i love the colour of the sky, i'm guessing either dawn or but more likely dusk.

in any case, the first time i saw a pair of shoes on wires like this where i lived, i laughed, thought it funny. but in my writing group, we had a cop who's on the SWAT team and he told us it is a sign of drug dealers to mark their territories. we don't live there anymore but just before we moved and even now when we pass by the street, there are always unmarked cop cars plying the streets around that area. so when i go to any place where i see this, i just leave.

I'm not sure about the motivation behind this pair. Several theories floating around. I just choose to see it at art, Shoefiti :-)
@stuckinoz This is processed in Lightroom, using a B&W preset (first time i have used a preset). Not sure which one. Can find out if you want.
@jodimuli lol Joey. These won't fit you. They look more like size 6 or 7

Someone told me when I posted shoes on a wire that they indicate a place where drugs are sold. Let's hope not! Mine were at a public park! Now that you have shot a pic of this, you will see them everywhere!

The shoes on the wire( I heard) in the big US cities used to be signals to gang members,
January 10th, 2013
@espyetta I heard something like this as well, still a great shot.
January 10th, 2013
@synke why indeed

that's funny it took you four years! We also had some shoes on our wire, one pair, and then two. I did take a picture, and now they are gone.
