Mo.Portrait

My partner Wendy @farmreporter challenged me to shoot in low light with high ISO and use my histogram as far right as possible and then recover highlights. This method reduces the noise found in the shadows... perhaps at 12800 ISO I was pushing the highlights a bit much.
What is the story re his front paws? Great expression

@farmreporter Hey Wendy I tried it... 12800 ISO, that is insane... his paws are a bit blown out so then I would need to adjust. I might just crop his paws, what do you think?

This is really well done! It is so amazing how far you can push your camera and still get a great shot.
As for the paws, rather than cropping them should you consider doing a burn in PS?
He has a great expression and it's A FAV!

Love the light and the expression on his sweet face!

Great portrait and light. Have you tried this method with a worse lens?
March 7th, 2019
Fantastic!
March 7th, 2019
@haskar what do you mean with a worse lens? one that is not fast enough?
March 8th, 2019
@adi314 You used the 1.8 aperture. Have you tried this method for a lens with an aperture of 5.6 or more?
March 8th, 2019
@haskar I did try briefly at 6.7 aperture but the 12800 iso was not high enough plus my subject started moving. Now that I know how to access higher ISOs in my camera I will try with a smaller aperture to get Monty's nose focused. I will keep you posted

It is a great portrait of your dog.

Love his face. If you know how to use photoshop, you can take the image into PS for editing. Add a new layer and use the the healing brush tool or the patch tool on the new layer - those tools will take pixels from other parts of his paws and replace the little "hot" circles where the highlights are falling. YouTube has lots of tutorials on these techniques. Otherwise, crop to bring in his face only. Wonderful focus on his eyes.
