@30pics4jackiesdiamond I usually only try snowflakes when it's really cold so they don't melt too fast. It was around 0F when I did these.
For these I used two extension tubes, 12mm and 36mm, on my 50mm lens. I really like extension tubes for macro work. Focusing is mostly just moving back and forth and holding steady. I think I can keep my aperture more open yet get a sharper DoF with the 50mm and extension tubes than I can by closing down aperture with my macro lens. Could just be me ... anyway ... I use the extension tubes on my 50mm. Because there wasn't great light I also used a ring light. I used a black background (my gloves) ... tried some other backgrounds but the snowflakes just didn't stand out as well. Maybe because they were so little. Hope that helps....
