white-faced ibis by aecasey

white-faced ibis

Same low wetland area, but a different small horse pasture. I could not get as close to these ibis as the avocet. I was trying to wield the big zoom which I struggle mightily with and they kept meandering further and further away. Still, I had to include them as they aren't very common, though in the past few years they have started visiting our area. We are just a shade northwest of their breeding range, so perhaps that is expanding. Since starting this project I have begun to notice more and more the changes in migration patterns, new birds coming through or staying for the summer, as well as changes in our weather patterns. It is both exciting and worrisome.
Nice colours

Good shot! I struggle mightily with the big lens too, so I feel your pain!

They look very exotic to European eyes...

Still a great shot of them and their lovely colours.

Lovely, I have considered getting a lens suitable for bird captures from a greater distance but looking at some of the lens in use I have decided they would be awful hard for me to weld. Not going to spend that kind of money and then not be able to hold it properly. You have done a wonderful job.
