Carving pumpkins was a tradition when the kids were young. Searching for the perfect pumpkin, selecting the pattern, gutting, and carving were as much a part of Halloween as costumes. The carved pumpkins were carefully transported to my parents' home in town, where they were proudly lit and displayed on the front porch for all the trick-or-treaters to enjoy. Youngest son has carried on the tradition of carving with his family. He brought me his mandala pumpkin to enjoy because only one night of lit carving simply isn't enough.
i've always marvelled at the intricacies of the mandalas. back a few years earlier, when colouring books were all the rage i bought a really cool book but only managed to colour a magical bird. i didn't even do justice to it. 😊
this must've taken ages to carve, although probably to your son it was peanuts! and yay to traditions. you raised him well and this photo is fabulous. aces!
