On our way out to the Santa Ynez mountains this afternoon, we turned off in Los Alamos and ran across these old (and sadly non-functional) pumps. Ah the good ol' days when gas was under 75 cents a gallon...
Makes you nostalgic for the times when it just cost £20 to fill up - and this looks even earlier and like the kind of place someone would come and do that for you. Very evocative.
@wahyusp Hi there! Nope, I didn't use Photomatix here. It's one shot and I used Nik's Silver Efex for some sepia toning and a light application of a very old, free version of LucisArts for a bit of the "grainy" look. A little layer masking to bring back some color and a slight curves adjustment completes the picture. Happy New Year, Wayhu!
I love that I see two different versions of this fuel station in a row (just saw Heather's). I love the contrast in the way two gifted photographers shoot the same scene - awesome!
What's nice about your shots is that when they on the PP I can tell its your or H's photo. I like knowing your work that well.
Congrats for making the PP and for a wonderful shot...
@nikkers That's very cool and interesting because I never think of myself as having a certain "style" as so many people do. I always seem so all over the place with what I do! Thanks so much for your continuing support!!! xxoo
oh my god - another great find! love the processing - did you order those pumpkins as well? happy happy new year!! looking forward to seeing more of your amazing photos in the next decade. :)
as i just posted on heather's photo, yours and hers were sitting one under the other on the pop just now haha ... which then made me realise that i'd seen each photo but hadn't realised it was two different ones...not that they look the same, i just had been lazy :( oopsy. i love the fence in heather's, and her flare is better, sorry haha, but i do love the pale colouring you've done in this, and the angle is awesome, it looks so old and dusty lol.
Congrats for making the PP and for a wonderful shot...
Thanks so much, all you wonderful 365ers--you ROCK! A very Happy New Year to you all--looking forward to many more incredible shots from you folks!!!
