For our Saturday drive today, we went in search of the bobcat families we had found several weeks ago. We didn't find any trace of them and wondered if maybe their den had been moved due to all the rains. However, on a fortuitous and unplanned turn-off onto a private, no trespassing, keep out, don't even look road, we came across this big guy on his evening prowl. Seriously, how lucky are we?!
@jjsooner I never, EVER get tired of deer and birds, no matter how common they are--sounds like a great evening! And by the time we caught up with Bob, he was probably about 100 yards away (??), but I'm not good with judging those distances. In my 400mm lens on my Canon 7D, he was minuscule and I was lucky to get anything even remotely sharp. These images are super crops!
@aikiuser Not far from Long Beach. Just means several hours driving up north but it be worth it. Last August I encountered a mother bear and two cubs for the first time ever - so cool. With my excitement I did not have camera ready. It was at night-time too at Mammoth Lakes!
@emeraldboots So cool--give us a holler and come on up any time! It really is gorgeous around here and we'd love showing a fellow photog some spots! :-D And how AWESOME about the bears!!!
@aikiuser I would love that and to meet a great photographer too! :-) May not be until nearer to Spring Break but if I do happen to know I be up that way - I will let you know.
I thought of Lacy when you mentioned you went past those 'keep out' signs - ha! It looks wellllll worth the effort - beautiful creatures that you are bringing us.

All I saw on my evening drive was a herd of deer and a never ending flock of migratory birds (late?). OK, that was cool too.
Seriously, awesome capture. How far away were you?
