Cooper's Landing by aikiuser

Cooper's Landing

We have bird feeders in our back yard (pretty much just a small patio) which attracts a lot of different little birds. In turn, occasionally a larger bird of prey will stop by in hopes of an easy target. This Cooper's Hawk was just hanging out on our fence a few days ago and I was lucky to get a shot off. ...Through a terribly dirty sliding glass door and into the shade, but at least it was something! These birds have beautiful color, but with such a poor quality file, I opted for b/w to hide some of its many flaws.
A stunning shot, Jenn, and a big fave for me. Where's his other leg? I love the different feather patterns. It's all good.

you're right - they do have beautiful colors but I really like this b&w. it brings out the detail of his feathers. I also like the position of his body and feathers. nice capture.

Superb shot, Jenn. Love the one-legged balance. Fav.

@aikimomm I think the other leg is being stretched so it looks kinda weird behind the fence!

Beautiful shot and great processing as always. I've seen a Cooper's hawk on our fence too. I'm quite conflicted when I see him.

Pam
love how you captured his tail feathers opened up. I like it in B&W!

B&W may have been a last resort for you, but it worked extremely well. That isn't something we see often in bird photos, but this feather pattern is ideal for B&W. Nice how the wing and tail are fanned to the side.
