Parrots generally spend most of their days doing three things: eating, sleeping and preening. (I could also add squawking!). By now, you probably know that my girls are fond of food, so we often hide it around to encourage them to forage, so they don't spend too long preening. (Over-preening can lead to feather damage and plucking). That said, both Phoenix and Magic like to keep their feathers in good order, and they also look after my hair and eyebrows too... Here's Magic (note the pink feet) preening her 'socks' while snuggling in the sunbeams :)
@http365proj Boredom or frustration are usually the things that lead to overpreening (and plucking). We try to make sure our girls don't have time to get bored :)
I always look forward to when Sira is preening, eating or sleeping, because those are the times the vocalization is at its minimum :-) Although when he is preening he will still throw in a good screech or two for good measure. Love the lighting in this picture
