Luigi's

According to Wikipedia, Italian ice is a frozen dessert made from either concentrated syrup flavoring or fruit purees. Italian ice is not shaved ice that is flavored; rather, it is made by the same process by which ice cream is made: mixing ingredients and pouring them into a batch freezer. When I was a kid we had a gas station that in the summer sold homemade ice cream and ices. Watermelon ice was my favorite but alas it is only a memory. Nowadays Luigi's can cool you nicely on a hot summer's day. Forecast for the next few days is over the century mark so I am well stocked.
Yummm. Nice shot Allison, I like the yellow trim on the placemat and the yellow spoon to go with the lemon ice :)

I love this stuff! When I was a kid, we had an Italian ice truck who would come through the neighborhood (just like the ice cream man) and sell all sorts of Italian ices. Watermelon was my favorite too! I like the colors and composition of your shot. Very nice.

I love Italian Ice -- when it is just starting to get a little soft around the edges of the cup is the best time to dig into it. EXCELLENT idea for this HOT weather. The next several days are suppose to be 100' or more -- so I'll have to remember to take my cooler bag to the grocery store or it will be all melted by the time I can get home from the store.
What a very pleasant thought for starting this day.
Thanks

I thought about stopping for an ice cream the other day...am sure the 100 degree F temp (almost 38 C) today and tomorrow may push me to turn into the Dairy Queen or Brewster's parking lot ;-)

The "Watermelon Ice" you mention sounds delicious! Of course your picture will leave many of us wishing for this taste treat where none is available!

I left you a note (Kerri had a question, too)...and no, we don't need air conditioning at all...it stays really cool inside. Must have been the way they built these old houses...

Hi, thanks for comments on roses.... we don't have any snakes in Ireland! Not many bugs this year so far - that means that the roses have stayed fresh looking. Greenfly is normally the biggest pest and although I've seen it on the roses at church it doesn't seem to be around the rectory at the moment.

Allison, I got me some Luigi's Italian Ice today! When I saw it in the store, I immedeiately thought of your photo, and grabbed it right away! I LOVE it! The strawberry flavor was delicious! So refreshing, and much better than ice cream! ;-) Thank you so much for shating that and thank you for your kind comments! I enjoyed your 'garlic breath' story ;-))) I guess we'll stick to Italian ice for refreshment before going out ;-)
