Casting about for another subject for this week's theme, I stumbled upon this specimen of nettle plant. I turned to wikipedia to identify the species but I'm still not sure if it is a wood nettle or a stinging nettle or one of the other 30 to 45 varieties of flowering plants of the genus Urtica in the family Urticaceae. All I know is those thorns are pretty scary and I certainly will "Look, but not touch."
Mercy me -- look at the size of those thorns and look at how many there are of them. This is one evil-looking plant -- you're right, we don't want to touch this one.
great idea for the theme-----looks like a plant to avoid :o) Sometimes people around here collect stinging nettle and cook it like spinach! It loses it's sting when cooked and tastes a little like spinach :o)
Good capture! Thanks for telling me the name of it. I'm looking at some possible poison ivy in my front flower bed and trying to decide how to get rid of it. It seems to match the photos that I have found, but still it's hard to tell. And why would it grow in the front flower bed? I think that's unusual...but leaves of three....and everything else matches.
I hope this isn't your yard...that looks dreadful! Well, not your picture as much as the subject matter... it really does make me draw back, even from the photo!
Thanks for the vote of confidence about the rest of the car photos. I'll be adding them to my Shutterfly acct shortly...when I do, I'll leave a note with my photo-of-the-day...thanks :-)
(& your comment made me laugh out load Allison, very clever (o; )
