Actually written during the the First World War, this prayer was found written on a holy card of St. Francis. The prayer bore no name, but came to be called the Peace Prayer of St. Francis.
Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred,
Let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is error, truth;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, Joy.
O Divine Master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled
As to console;
To be understood,as to understand;
To be loved, as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Beautifully photographed! This prayer is quoted in a song by my favorite band, and I knew I'd heard it before but wasn't sure where it was from. Thanks for clearing up that mystery for me!
This photo is super great as well as the actual prayer.
Its's a great pic for the theme -- but it would still be a great pic even if there were no Peace theme this week.
beautiful photo. Makes me think of my mom. :)
Saint Francis was her patron saint. Is that the right phrase? Her middle name was Frances, and she absolutely adored St. Francis. We had a St. Francis statue in our garden, of course.
