Believe it or not, the library still uses an old-fashioned typewriter for certain tasks. Spine labels for books and names on library cards are most efficiently printed using this electric behemoth. Our newly hired library assistant hadn't used a typewriter in years, but soon had those keys rattling. The irony is that the typewriter is now much heavier than a computer and when it needs maintenance, a repairman has to make a house call!
Haven't seen a typewriter for a long time. I remember the IBM Selectric with memory - which we thought was God's gift! I could give my assistant a letter and she could save it until I did the next letter. How things have changed! Nice shot and angle!
I love this shot. I remember manual typewriters and layers of carbon paper. I don't know if all techological advances are good; but I do know that a computer keyboard sure is far better than a manual typewriter.
Great shot! I remember I used to play with my mom's typewriter all the time when I was little... I used to say I was going to write the next great novel with it. LOL! Oh, how times have changed!
When at school in 1969 our typing class was taken on a field trip to see the first electric typewriter that a nearby college had just purchased. We were all on the old "thump as hard as you can" manual machines. My first leaving present from a school was a portable manual typewriter .... considerably larger and heavier than this laptop!
Love this and the history along with it! So thankful that I can do spell check and easily correct typos. I was a frustrated little typer in 8th grade. Great perspective and eye for the photo.
i could still remember how we managed to use a typewriter without much trouble before computers were introduced, now i could not imagine life without my computer for typing and i am not sure if i can even use a typewriter again!!!!! this is such a great entry for the theme!!!
What fun! Looks like an entry is necessary in the journal, Miss Popularity! Thanks for letting me know...short on time here today and I'd have likely missed it without the heads up!
my mom still has her ibm selectric as well as her manual typewriter she bought with her "strawberry" money in the 1950s. She could really make that old manual typewriter sing back in the day by pounding out about 85 words a minute on it. ;-)
Oh boy...nostalgia. I remember writing out my term papers and typing them out in college, having to erase one too many letters and just ripping the whole darn piece out, LOL!!
