Today was the annual party for library volunteers. At the end of the school year we invite the parents who have helped in the library to come and select a brand new book to be donated in their name. We also host the student volunteers, and our school Head awards each a certificate of service. This year we had 66 third and fourth graders. I greeted them at the door as they shed their backpacks outside. I remind them about using their party manners, taking a sample of refreshments and then returning for seconds after everyone has been served. I also tell them that when the dismissal bell rings, they need to thank their hosts for the party, making eye contact and shaking hands. It is easy for kids to forget in all the excitement, but we think being a good guest requires good manners and this is a good place to practice.
In this picture you see the library staff. My colleague on the right is the birthday girl for whom I chose the cupcakes.

good to see a picture of you and good to see that you are encouraging good manners and politeness among the pupils of the school.
