Das Boot by allie912

Das Boot

Here I am fitted with an amazing piece of equipment. I just hope i can figure out how to put it on again. It has all sorts of straps and velcro and moving parts. I even have a miniature pump to inflate the boot with air to keep my foot compressed as the swelling reduces. I stopped off at school to pick up more note cards and show off my new mobility but I don't intend to return til Friday noon. I was actually rather tuckered out by the time I got settled at home.
BTW, the title of the picture was inspired by a 1981 German film about the world of a WWII German U-boat; In this case "boot" means "boat" (So what is the german word for "boot"--maybe "boat"?)
If you had two of them on I'd say you're ready for a walk on the moon! The technology is amazing. It does look heavy though- so I'm not surprised walking around in it wore you out!

@olivetreeann I can't believe people ski with footgear this size.

The german word boot is stiefel - meaning boots.. yours look clumsy. I bet they are hard to walk in.

Yikes! It looks like it belongs on a Storm Trooper from "Star Wars!"

Just walk carefully, but at least you can get around

Looks heavy. Do be careful! I hope you heal quickly.

OMG...I had one of these a year ago! NOT FUN!! They are so heavy!! Hope you heal up soon and are back on BOTH feet!

Looks like you're going to have a hard time getting around for awhile - how to you manage to sleep?

@sparkleplenty1 I am not wearing the boot at night. Don't know if that is medically indicated but it is what I decided.

Oh, m y, that reminds me of a woman on my Italian adventure who wore one of those, up and down steps and hills, through crowded alleyways, dodging motorcycles -- I don't know how she did it without even complaining.

@catwoman2 I can't imagine enduring such discomfort while on a vacation.

Built for comfort not speed! I hope it helps the break heal.
October 5th, 2012
Take it easy, this "Star Wars" thingy doesn't look comfortable at all!
October 5th, 2012
allison what can i say..i hope you have a 'high tech recovery' :)
October 5th, 2012
Oh my, this certainly is high tech!

Yours is a bit fancier than mine was. Mine did wonders for my foot...wasn't so good for my hip. I should have gotten a higher shoe for the other foot
October 15th, 2012
@ellen My doctor's assistant. gave me several cork lifts to put in the other shoe for just that reason. Even so, I feel like Pop Eye rolling along.

Well, I think it's best to try to stay off of it, as much for the injured foot as for the alignment of your poor body. And why not go get a massage and a soak in a spa once in a while? :)
