Upgrade to the Book Nook

This is the story area in our K-4 library. The kids sit on the steps so everyone has an unobstructed view of the librarian sharing her book. The carpet on the steps was replaced over the summer due to general wear and tear. Unfortunately it was replaced with a looped carpet that unraveled as the kids sat listening and pulling on the tufts. They weren't being malicious. You try to keep a kid, or even an adult, from pulling on a thread that is coming loose. So within a few weeks it was positively unsightly. The good news is that the carpet company took responsibility for a poor choice of material and replaced it for free. Because today was Conference Day, which meant we had no classes in the library, it was a perfect time to replace the carpet. Hopefully we won't have to do this again for a very long time.

What a pity about the carpeting! Nice of the company to replace it...a good call on their part as they're sure to be remembered for standing behind their product.

I so love what I am seeing in Libraries today compared to my childhood. Don't get me wrong. I walked to the library once a week and came home with an armload. But now I see tree houses to entice kids and pajama time. I raised one that is the writer and reads constantly for research and pleasure and one that reads rarely. Get those kids interest. I truly see that as a way to help them steer the murky waters coming their way,
