Museum Crawl First Stop

Come along with me on Richmond’s first Museum Crawl with free shuttle service to 7 city museums. They include The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, The Virginia Museum of History and Culture, The American Civil War Museum, The Valentine Museum, The White House of the Confederacy, The Black History Museum and The Institute of Contemporary Art. The bus began picking up ticket holders at 10 am and continued until 4 pm. Since I am a member of VMFA and VMHC and had recently visited the Valentine, I set my sights on the remaining four. As it turned out, there was no way I could have fit anymore into my day, so I’m happy to share a few of the highlights of these diverse institutions. I parked at the VMHC which happened to be closest to home and hopped on the bus downtown to the historic Tredegar Ironworks which supplied munitions for the Confederacy during the Civil War. Now it is the home of the American Civil War Museum and displays stories and artifacts of slavery, emancipation and war. There is also a fascinating gallery dedicated to telling the story of how the economic needs of the war affected our money and banking system. The last time I was at this location was during the Folk Festival in October, when I popped in to cool off. I did not venture into the galleries at that time ( no free admission that day!) so I was glad to have a second chance.
So much history
