Does this make me look fat?

Started to open the car door and saw this unusual insect resting there. I've never seen anything like this before. The colors made me think of pants made out of really wild fabric. Thus the question.

Great shot. Allison, that is a moth called a webworm moth. The coloring of some insects is so beautiful.

Ailanthus webworm moth is its full name. It looks like a beetle because when the moth lands it rolls it wings up so that they lay flat against its body like a beetle.
This is the first year that I have noticed them as well -- I first saw them on milkweed plants/ flowers.

This is pretty amazing looking insect. And what an unusual pattern on his back...so this is a moth? Never would have guessed that!
