Today I finally got around to using a "Groupon I purchased in December. For those of you not lucky enough to be in a Groupon market area, here is how it works:
Groupon negotiates huge discounts—usually 50-90% off—with popular businesses then sends the deals to subscribers in a free daily email, and sends the businesses a ton of new customers. if a certain number of people sign up for the offer, then the deal becomes available to all; if the predetermined minimum is not met, no one gets the deal that day. This reduces risk for retailers, who can treat the coupons as quantity discount as well as sales promotion tools. Groupon makes money by keeping approximately half the money the person pays for the coupon.
I have used a Groupon to create a $30 Shutterfly photo album for $10. I've also used it to try new restaurants, get my car washed and rent movies. You never know what the day's offer will be.
But I digress. Today's deal was $15 for $30 worth of goodies at Jean-Jacques, a French bakery of some renown. It was hard to decide, but I came home with a box and two bags full of sweet treats.
We do not have that available here, but it definitely sounds like a win win for the customers. Your choice of purchase for the day, well....I think you get an "A" for awesome!
