Train Spotting

Trains have changed a lot from when I used to count cars as a kid. These cars are from a CSX freight train, carrying many carloads of coal from West Virginia. A number of cars were splashed with graffiti. The first picture on the right shows how the engines were arrayed; No "little engine that could" But the biggest surprise was the lack of caboose at the tail of the train. Just a final generic car.
Cool series of photos. One thing I miss, and that is the sight of the old fashion steam engines that used to go through the area from time to time.

Great series! I always find freight trains so interesting... all those different cars carrying all kinds of different things all strung together (at least the ones that run through our area).

Before we lived in PA., we lived across the street from some "live" tracks. We got so used to the trains runnning through we didn't even hear them most of the time. When our sons were little we loved to count the cars as they passed. Sometimes there was a caboose, but sometimes there wasn't. Now, we're no where near a train and I miss the sound of the whistle. So your shots brought back some good memories. Nice capture and great idea!
