A Sad Story

I showed you this nest when the Mama Mourning Dove laid her first egg. Several weeks have passed and when I checked there are now two eggs and no Mama. Bernard figured that laying eggs in the middle of a pot of cactus made it impossible for Mama to get comfortable so she took off. Nature can be harsh.

That is so sad. One year birds made a nest in a hanging fern on our front porch, the babies hatched and crows came and ate them.

A weird spot for a dove to lay eggs, that's for sure. Nature is grand, but it ain't always easy!
