A Most Unusual Iris

This Iris at Lewis Ginter has a very different shape than the ones we customarily see in the Spring. It blooms later, and it opens much wider. From a distance, it looks like a field of butterflies.
These look similar is shape to the wild irises here. Ours however are a much darker purple.

I was wondering if they were Louisiana irises, which remind me of butterflies. Pretty scene.

@eudora There was a sign, bit unfortunately I didn’t record it. I’ll have to ask my friend if she remembers.
