Time was running out on my get pushed challenge this week: a selfie with my kids. So this morning after a good night's sleep and only after I had downed my morning joe, I finally had the energy to give it a go. It helped that we had some nice natural light going on in the house. I threw a blanket over the back of the couch and voila!
Here are me and my sweet three. Please excuse our pj's and morning bed head. They didn't really want to do this, so considering that, I think it turned out pretty nice. I had to convince them by letting us do a silly version, too.
@kph129 I finally did it!!! I had something altogether different in my mind that I will have to try another time. So tough to pose people when you are running to get into the shot yourself. All things considered, I rather like the result. Thanks for the push, lady!!
@rockinrobyn@kph129 You are very sweet ladies. Thanks for the faves. Next time, I've got to include Michael in there, too. One more person to add to the difficulty;-).
this came out brilliantly! my first thought when you explained your challenge was "OMG! no way on earth could i commit to a shot with my kids!"... mega congrats to you for pulling it off... :)
@northy Threats were involved;-). It is tough to get kids to cooperate. They were happy for the first shot or two. Thanks, lady! Tough challenge that I DREADED.
sadly my kids are at the stage where most threats are worthless... the worst i could do is take away electronics... at which point they would spend the hours moaning and groaning around me about how bored they are
Amanda & @northy i just had to giggle at your comment northy ...about taking away electronics and then the moans and groans ... that's really funny ... i start out with telling them i will give them a bag of their own personal chips (takis) that they love and i never buy them ( a little pricey and it's a small bag) anyhow, that seems to only last for a few shots and than it start's to wear off ...the excitement ... and i say ...well, if you don't cooperate then I"m not buying you anything!!! and it back fires ...cause it goes down hill from there!! oh the joys of being behind the camera!!! lol Amanda, love this pic of you and your kiddos ... brings a smile to face!!! wonderful job my friend!!!
I agree aith everyone else. This is a wonderful portrait. I know how difficult it is to get my little ones to cooperate for more than 30 seconds and you have another one on top. Beautiful smiles all round. Lovely.
Friends, I truly appreciate all of your lovely comments on this hard get pushed challenge. For a lady that doesn't shy away from doing selfies, it was a challenge to include 3 kids in one. So pleased with how it turned out and that you all liked it, too. Happy new week.
@psychographer We all do look alike. My hubby and I could be related by our looks too. Since my kids aren't cross-eyed, though, it's obvious that we are not;-). Thank you for all of your lovely comments!
@tanja_1211@happysnap Thanks so much. Hubby and I look as if we could be related and the kids are a good mix (and thankfully not crosseyed proving that we are not cousins;-).
@bobfoto I often convert to b&w to save photos from poor setting choices/need to edit. Still have much to learn with my camera settings. I ETSOOIed a fun one in color, too.
@bobfoto Oh and we were literally in our pj's so not very nicely put together for a photo. It was one of those things that I had to force myself to do (so so tough to get a shot with all 3 kids cooperating) and for whatever reason, I felt like it then. Must learn how to get good color portraits, though. Pointers?
@amandal - my most question I ask myself is to saturate or de-saturate? Here in PNG, skin colour is important and I aim to get that right regardless of background colour or clothing. Then I have the option of increasing saturation to add excitement and colour or decrease the saturation to emphasise the grunginess of this place. Adding a bit of warmth always helps the skin tone here.
@bobfoto Do you edit in camera or post or both? Like when would you adjust the saturation? I typically do most post. Need to learn how to adjust exposure. When I try, it's not working out so well. Too much usually.
@bobfoto Looking forward to shooting RAW. Our computer can't handle the image sizes now. It is on it's last leg, but we are unable to replace. Thanks for the info.
@bobfoto Must get some type of side income. We only have one for a family of 5. Not a lot of surplus for my addiction (read: NONE). I broke my tripod this week and have to make do...
@bobfoto So instead of a computer, lens or software upgrade, I opt to go have the experience...go see a place I've been dying to see. Hope I made the right choice.
@wind_of_the_sothern_sea You are very kind, Arefin. Thank you for the fav!

All Saturation is done post.
