Patriotic Paint Job: Before and After by alophoto

Patriotic Paint Job: Before and After

When we bought our new place back in November, the inspector told us that we would need to paint right away. We finally got around to it and had the job done(and were able to with the weather), these past few weeks and now the job is finally complete! It took weeks from start to finish. It looks much, much better with the fresh new colors and paint, I think.

And see that my door is now red. Wait, does that mean "Don't come on in?" or "Stop!" or "Go Away." I just love red doors for some reason, not for those connotations above so much, but for the look.

Note how different the scene looks in different seasons. The left before shot was taken in late fall when the leaves were gone and the right shot is us in the beginning of summer, so green and lush. Look at all that grew up since then, too. No, not the weeds...the bushes, too:).
What a beautiful house, love the colours too. It always amazes me how American houses always appear so big, wish I had that space!!

wow what a difference !!! great job

@roseolivia This is a decently big place. We have a big family, though. This is one that we will never outgrow. It's our 5th house, and others were decently smaller, but for a monstrousity in California. No wonder we couldn't afford living out there! This has 4 bedrooms, one for each kid and the master bedroom. We have a finished basement as well which adds a bit of space for guests and our office. Thanks, friend!

@pittcj17 Thanks, Cindy!

Wow! Such a difference. Looks great!! In the before, your house looked like a wallflower. Now it much more reflects your personality.

I am curious why the inspector said you must paint right away?????
June 24th, 2014
@annied I wondered that too. It looks lovely painted, but it didn't look dangerously unpainted in the before shot.
June 24th, 2014
@annied Wood in crappy shape, needing to be sealed so it doesn't get worse and do damage deeper in. Does that make sense?

@egad It was so dull and meh before. I agree. Thanks, lady!!!

What a difference
June 24th, 2014
@amandal that does make sense - haha - and it looks much more striking with the paint job :)
June 24th, 2014
@teiko Up close it looked pretty bad. Did you see my reply to Annie above? Wood in bad shape and needed sealing to fix that...otherwise it would just suck in water and further damage house.

what a lovely home you have - love your new paint colors :)
June 24th, 2014
Your home looks beautiful and in a scenic setting... like the paint job!
June 24th, 2014
It seems like you've gotten a new roof too.
June 24th, 2014
@cejaanderson I think it's just sunny and looks different in the light. No new roof. It was newish when we moved in. So fun to see how it looks different times of year with growth, though.

I guess it was the house inspector you had when you bought the house and not a neighbor inspector .lol
Was it hard picking a color for the shutters? I find that the hardest part. Looks fabulous . We haven't moved in 30 years so just shoot me if we do. Don't think I could face the challenge .
June 24th, 2014
@lesip Ugh, we've moved 5 times in the past 13 years. OVER IT!! Yes, color choice was hard and truth be told, I wasn't 100% pleased when I saw it up and finished. So hard to tell with swatches. Wish the blue were darker, white were creamer, etc. Oh well. Yes, a very thorough home inspector.

nice house indeed!
June 24th, 2014
YES! Love it....great make over!
June 24th, 2014
Looks great! I grew up in a house with barn like cedar planks, the basement part bricked with antique brick from an old building in Chattanooga that was demolished, and an "antiqued" dark red door and front porch swing. I live red doors too. Mine is black
Though
June 24th, 2014
Love how the shutters and front door pop in your after photo.
June 24th, 2014
@amandal Yep, and it looks great :) Your lawn looks beautiful too.
June 24th, 2014
Looks very nice! Red doors signal, "come in and stay awhile." :) Or at least it should in your case.
June 24th, 2014
Lovely difference! It looks so much brighter and happier!
June 24th, 2014
You house looks lovely! What a difference fresh paint and a green leafy season make!
June 24th, 2014
Lovely house. Paint really improves it too. And love what you did to the trees. Nice colour.
June 24th, 2014
BIG-Beautiful house---love the new paint job-:)
June 24th, 2014
Love the new colour scheme - the fall house looks quite bereft by comparison.

Your house is huge! :-) Love the new colour scheme. The dark blue shutters look great!
June 24th, 2014
Fabulous pair of captures. Love the way the new paint job has worked.
June 25th, 2014
Wow - that's a huge house! I'm a red door lover, as well. When we renovate the outside of our house - hope to change it to red. ;)
June 25th, 2014
It is beautiful!
June 25th, 2014
looks great & I like that the after shot is on a sunny day so it makes it look even better
June 25th, 2014
Nice job, especially the red door.
June 26th, 2014
Love the new colors. Looks SO much better!
June 26th, 2014
The addition of the blue is fantastic! Now I want a red door!
June 26th, 2014
It looks absolutely beautiful! The bushes have really grown!
June 27th, 2014
I love your shutter colors......they go very well with the brick!! Yes, I wondered about the roof color, too, but then I noticed that the rest of it looked the same as in the earlier picture! Love red doors, too, and it is all about good energy and a welcoming sign! Now, just put a pineapple at your entry area, and you have the hospitality thing covered!! Beautiful house, and methinks, just perfect for your family...
