This was a scene right out of a movie for me. It was incredible that it was right before my eyes in real life. I could almost hear the music from the soundtrack of Glory in my head. James Horner music. I love his work and almost listened to that tape to death in high school while working on homework.
This was the Confederate troops, hustling across a field that was smokey from cannon fire. Running away from the advancing Union army. Love the action of the flag flying as they ran. Love the excitement in the air. The sound of the guns. So glad it was all fake.
An amazing, amazing event to witness. I will plan to attend this again next year.
Thank you soo much for all of your great comments, faves and support this week. So glad that you enjoyed my series on the Civil War reenactment. Sure hope that yesterday's photo of the mom and child places in the local photo contest. That would be so amazing as I have never won anything non 365 related for a photo before. I'll keep you posted.
@cejaanderson Thanks so much, Jane. I was in awe of how cool it looked watching this. Did you see Glory and like the soundtrack? We watched it in HS American History class. Loved that class. Cute boy in class helped.:)
Instant FAV! But, I don't have to go to your link, my husband has the soundtrack and still listens to it! LOL! It's one of his favorite movies (that and Gettysburg). I'm glad this reenactment was accurate. We went to a reenactment of the only Civil War battle fought in the state of IN when we lived there. My youngest son is a history buff, like my husband. We sat out in 100+ heat only to watch the Rebs win! What? My son was so mad! LOL! Apparently, at this yearly 2-day reenactment, they take turns winning, so both sides gets a chance to win each year.
@homeschoolmom They won some, both sides did. The war lasted so long didn't it? Them taking turns makes sense to me. glad it wasn't so hot for us that day. LOVED seeing this, especially through the lens. So many super photo ops. Thanks for the fav, sweet lady!!
@gerry Gosh, Gerry, it was so awesome to watch this. Thanks so much for the fav!!!
@sassyinma It was smoke from cannon fire. Such amazing atmosphere! Thanks!
@amandal But, they didn't win the only battle in IN! It was only a small skirmish on the border, but it if you are going to reenact an actual battle, you have to get it right. Especially if my son is watching! LOL!
Reenactments are amazing. At he end of the Antietam Reenactment, multitudes of dead soldiers sprawled on the ground. As he crowd of spectators prepared to leave, the announcer said that if we wanted a better idea of the number of the dead, we all should lie down on the field, too. That gave us something to think about.
Such a different sort of war to the ones nowadays! We can put music to them nowadays and love the history that is remembered. This is great music on the soundtrack!
Thanks so much, my friend. I visited Jamaica once and the air was thick with ganga smoke. I came home with a fuzzy head effected by it. I didn't mean to inhale. @bill_fe
And this book has an excellent chapter on the re-enactment culture: http://www.amazon.com/Confederates-Attic-Dispatches-Unfinished-Civil/dp/067975833X/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1405689352&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=Confederates+in+the+Attic
