This summer, we visited Plymouth, MA and toured the Mayflower II (the replica of the Mayflower that brought the pilgrims and other early settlers to America). Some of my ancestors were among those first pilgrims, so it was all the more interesting and personal for me.
I thought that this would be appropriate for Thanksgiving as we learn about the pilgrims and their first harvest and thanksgiving that they shared with the native Americans who helped them survive. Grateful that despite the bad circumstances (half died), somehow my ancestors survived. I must have good genes.
So much to be thankful for today and year round. But today I need to be busy, busy preparing for our big feast that I am hosting tomorrow. Lots of cleaning to do. And I will do it with a grateful heart.
It's been a number of years since the last time we visited the Mayflower. Our daughters were still in school. It is a most appropriate image for Thanksgiving! Happy Thanksgiving Amanda!
Fantastic capture and story Amanda. Also glad your ancestors survived...and that you are in this world!! :) :) Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your day with family. Hope you can sneak some rest in there somewhere!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family, Amanda! How fascinating that you can trace your roots to those who made the journey to America. I like the way you processed this image to have a bit of old world look to it.
Hey, we went there, but it was at night (a last minute stop right before we moved). We tried to go last Thanksgiving, but 3 different times our field trip got cancelled (sick kid, water out so we couldn't get ready, snow). Perfect for Thanksgiving.
