Moe Hawk, Faux Hawk, Tommy Hawk? by alophoto

Moe Hawk, Faux Hawk, Tommy Hawk?

The other day, Clara said that there was a “big bird” in our back yard. I peered out and saw a hawk in a tree in our yard. Then I ran and grabbed my camera like any good photographer would.

He was staring intently at our bird feeder, sneaky thing. And he was so wonderfully camouflaged with the winter trees. Look at how he matches!

I shot him some from inside then went out and he allowed me to get really close and shoot a bunch before he flew off.

“Hi Mr. Hawk neighbor, I haven’t met you yet. I’m Amanda.”

Silence.

“Um, is your name Moe?”

Nothing.

“Faux?”

He may have smirked.

“Tommy?”

He was just intensely staring me down silently. Did he just lick his beak?

“Well, ok, I’ll call you Tommy Hawk. I met your friend Tony recently”

“Golly, you don't say much. Nice camo. Can you believe we spotted you? Who has hawk eyes now? Hope you get some lunch, but leave the cute little chickadees alone, would you? Bye."

I enjoyed my time with Tommy and the fun conversation though it was a bit one sided. Talk about one intense dude. And let me just say that it is seriously cool to have a hawk visit me in my own yard!!

Oh and for those of you that knew, I had a job interview and got a job yesterday. I will be working part time as an event coordinator for a company that does job fairs around the US and Canada. I start next week. It will be my first time really getting back into the job world since I had my son in 2005. Hope that the transition goes well and that all the childcare comes together (it's mostly while the kids are at school but the summer still needs to be figured out). Looking forward to adult time again and a little more life outside of the home!

Here was Tony from last month: http://365project.org/amandal/365-year-2/2014-11-03

And for fun, here is my first hawk shot that I got in my 3rd week of 365 way back when... I've come a long way: http://365project.org/amandal/365/2012-01-20
Great photo! And congratulations on your new job!

Very lovely, love how the colors go well with the background. Your new work sounds exciting, and wow it´s been a long time since you have been in a working life, it must be such a change for you. I recently was in a job interview too, and yes I got the job so I´ll be changing a work place in the beginning of the next year, so these are exciting times for me too. All the best luck to your new job :)

@laetitiapetrussa Thank you!!

@susale Yes, it has been awhile. I did some part time childcare from home and a little bit of part time work for our church, but this will be a bit more. Glad it is still part time, but let's me get out there again. And it is similar to what I did before, not just a job at a store or coffee shop. Congrats to you, too!!

@cejaanderson Thanks so much, Jane!!!

Yay you! And hot dog! Great narrative and cracking shot! Congrats on your new job. For child care, fun day camps are always good options. Our parks dept. helped me out while working summers if you have similar programs. A college student is always good too. A friend of mine did that every summer when her children were younger.

So, I guess your aim insist too good - seeing as you "shot" him several times and he still flew off. haha Very coordinated Mr. Hawk is with the winter trees. Congrats on the job! I hope the transition goes well!
December 10th, 2014
Beautiful capture and nice processing.
December 10th, 2014
Superb composition. I love the structure of the branches making the bird the centre, and the almost monochromatic quality. Great work.
December 10th, 2014
Lovely composition and beautiful edit. I love how the leaves pick up the color of his breast feathers.
December 10th, 2014
Excellent shot, I like it a lot

December 10th, 2014
You are so right - having a colour co-ordinated bird in your garden! Glad he stayed for your hostess talk! Congrats on the job - will it take you all over the US and Canada? Bet not!
December 10th, 2014
@maggiemae Maybe will. I may not get to Canada as that would be a longer trip. I need to keep it short with the kids. Thanks, lady!!
December 10th, 2014
Gorgeous capture. Congratulations on your new job.
December 10th, 2014

Great find and congrats on the job. Will you be travelling a lot?
December 10th, 2014
@lfrans Not a lot. Once per quarter or so. Too much would be hard with the kids.
December 10th, 2014
Congratulations on your job - I think you might have less time for your wonderful photos - I'll miss them A LOT. The hawk is brilliant and love the colours and camouflage .

December 10th, 2014
Well spotted Hawkeye. Love your conversation and very pleased for you landing a job. Hope you'll still have time for us here on 365.
December 10th, 2014
That bird certainly knows how to dress for his environment - he matches perfectly. :-) Thanks for sharing your early hawk photo. Gives me encouragement. Congrats on the new job, too!
December 10th, 2014
Fantastic capture,,, Lets hope he becomes a regular visitor, he is amazing x I can honestly say we dont have many bird visitors to our 6ft modest patch, but me and the local pigeons often cross paths!
December 11th, 2014
Nice, especially that he let you talk to him all that while. How fortunate to live in the woods with critters like this.

I have the recipe posted on my page as Amy-lee requested.
December 11th, 2014
Oh, and congrats on the job!
December 11th, 2014
@bill_fe Moe Faux...he he:). I mean, thank you! LOVE seeing dudes like this. I had an owl in my backyard a month or so back. Couldn't focus in time. We saw a family of deer tonight, too.
December 11th, 2014
@bill_fe Thanks. I'm excited and freaked out all at once. Hope it's a good thing!
December 11th, 2014
First - love this capture - the way the background matches the hawk! Secondly, loved the visit back to your first year - fav'ed some captures while I was over there (especially enjoyed "It's a Wrap")
December 11th, 2014
@linnypinny Aw, thank you so much. My first hawk photo stunk. Point and shoot, didn't know how to adjust it or edit yet (I think I did lighten it come to think of it). Neat to see from whence we came. I was embarrassed by the It's a Wrap photo, but I have come a long way since then, too. You are kind!
December 11th, 2014
@amandal Deer too, excellent. I'm sure it will be a good thing, especially the adult time part of it.
December 11th, 2014
Totally gorgeous ...pose, colors are outstanding! Really lovely! Blends in so well. FAV
December 11th, 2014
