This handsome guy is my 15 year old nephew, Max. We excitedly waited in the waiting room as his mama (Mike's sister, Caryn) was in labor with him. He was the youngest (and cutest) guest to attend our wedding. I babysat for him occasionally when he was a baby and remember accidentally scaring him with his stuffed alligator. Sadly we moved away when he was four, so we've only seen him occasionally during these growing up years. One funny thing was that we saw him in last December and then again in June and over the course of that time he grew taller and his voice changed. Just strange when that happens. I teased him and asked what happened to his voice. He's sporty and smart and kind and funny. Glad this wonderful young man is my nephew.
My kids got to stay with their cousins for a few days recently and really loved that time. It made their summer actually. I know that Max was teasing and tickling his cousins and they loved it.
I was inspired to post Max today as I am listening to a book on CD which is becoming one of my new favorite books: The Book Thief ( http://www.randomhouse.com/features/markuszusak/ ) . It's beautiful and heartbreaking and right now is about a character named Max.
I love your narrative and photo. Just lovely. The Book Thief is a wonderful book too! I read it many years ago, and it's still one of my favourite books. Written for young adults, I believe, but this old adult enjoyed it immensely! Very touching. The film somehow doesn't quite do it justice though.
I'm sure he will love this portrait, perhaps make it a FB profile to remember summer! People keep recommending that book to me, and I plan to read it too.
@paulaw@cejaanderson@taffy@seattlite@jamibann Just finished the book today...it had me weeping. What a heavy subject for a young adult book. What a beautiful and disturbing story. Love how people loved in the midst of such hate.
