dumpster diving

52week challenge, week 2 theme is Street. Michigan has a “returnable bottle/can” law for carbonated beverage containers. 10cent deposit is paid for each container and can be collected upon return. Looking for empties in trash cans, dumpsters, etc. can be a source of income. Would like to have gotten a better shot, but happy to have at least tried….
My parents have a campus rental which all of my sibblings help to turn over each year. There are dumpster divers all over looking for the treasure trove of throwaways by departing students.

Very good find, this is a serious dude. I often see college students with huge garbage bags of aluminum cans walking towards the redemption center. Its a dime per here as well. The stores used to burdened with taking the cans back but now it seems that Oregon has centralized the process.

@joysabin interesting…we still have to return them to stores…can be a hassle but I definitely notice more roadside debris in states that do not have returnables….

What a great idea. We used to have this here when I was young and I wish they could reinstate it.
