F-Word Birthday by andycoleborn

F-Word Birthday

Today was my girlfriend's birthday and as a treat, we went with some friends to Birmingham for a meal at Lasan's.

Fans of Gordon Ramsey's F-Word will remember Lasan as a fusion Indian restaurant which won last year's 'Best Restaurant' show.

And we weren't dissapointed.

Before eating we stopped off at the Bull Ring shopping centre with it's wild and crazy exterior. Then it was off to eat...

Here's what we scoffed in case you're interested...

Shorshe Seabream
Traditional fish curry from Kolkata, Sea Bream fillets simmered in a fiery course mustard sauce with pickling spices and fresh coriander

Old Delhi Style Poussin
Spring chicken spiced with ground coriander and roasted cumin simmered in ginger scented gravy.

Dhaba De Gosht
Punjabi style lamb curry; lamb marinated with mustard oil, ginger and garlic, yoghurt, cumin seeds and chillies. Slow simmered in a marrow bone stock.

Postho Chor Chori
Lightly spiced potato, aubergine and cauliflower tossed in a poppy seed masala.

Khatte Baigan
Kashmiri aubergine cooked with raw mango curry.

With pilau rice and naan bread.

Now - with 3 Asian foodies at the table you may wonder what they made of the visit? Well.. all agreed it was delish and one of the best Indian meals they have had in the UK. Not traditional Indian food by any means, but then again, it's not meant to be traditional, but a different take on a great cuisine..
Wonderful pictures of those structures! And happy that you guys had a great meal - we don't have very much good Indian food here in rural VT, which I miss dearly! Nice living vicariously through you... Happy Birthday to your girlfriend!

Beautiful collage. Happy birthday to gf. The Bull Ring shopping centre is the one with "dimples" structure?...it's unusual & awesome to look at.

Great collage.Mmmmmmm, currrryyyyy!!!!! I LOVE curry, and curry loves me...most of the time! There is a distinct shortage of curry houses out here in Brittany so l have to make my own. Getting to be a bit of a dab hand at it now but nothing, nothing beats sitting down in a good Indian restaurant, full of expectation of what lies ahead, to enjoy an evening of Indian gastronomy. Agree with you on Mr Ramsey by the way.
