Behind the red door,
Chaos is not allowed to exist,
Tears have vanished,
The black dog’s been banished
And depression’s been dismissed.
The start of a poem by Kathy Patton McLemore called, unsurprisingly,” Behind the red door"...
I’ve walked past this red door many times over the years, and since the start of this project I’ve thought that I should pass by and grab a snap, but until today, I just never got around to it.
This is one of the entrances to St Mary’s Church in Shadwell, East London. It’s a nice looking church, but does have a pub (now closed down) built onto the side which rather spoils the overall look of the building.
I’ve always liked the bright red paintwork of the door coupled with the fancy hinges all set against the old stonework of the building.
I only managed to grab a snap today as I was out and about taking photos for our annual report.
It's another lovely day in Old London Town which will no doubt result in another great sunset this evening...but I thought I would avoid taking one for a few days.
Which leads me on nicely to say thanks to everyone for all your fantastic and positive comments on yesterday’s photo. Was bit of a shock, but also a big boost, to sign on this morning and see one of my images on the home page :-)
Isn't it a great feeling to see your picture on the homepage! congrats. Isn't it unusual to have a pub attached to a church, maybe it helps attendance haha. I can see why you were drawn to the door
This is great! Love the way you have framed it. i wonder whos job it is to keep that gloss painted so well... Congrats on your sunset picture the other day, sorry i missed the moment.
This is a beautiful site to photograph! And congratulations for finding your work on the front page. Those of us who enjoy your photography aren't surpried to hear that!
The architecture in the archway is fab and I just love those old buildings. The red door with the black metal work is striking and the colour denotes that it could be an important door :)
Love the huge bent and curly hinges they make the door look like the entrance to a church in Hobbiton which would no doubt have a pub on the side too ;)
Thanks everyone and Andrea, I think you might be right - lots of little villages only have a pub and a church....Supoose if your not in one, you'll be in the other :-)
I'm with FaerieMoon (above)...I stopped by your September calendar page, and this is the one that first caught my eye. I can see that you have some other great photos too. This door is just beautiful and beautifully photographed!
Did you see her picture from the other day--you could be in the same town! http://365project.org/andifree/365/2010-09-05
I'm sure I will be stopping by again!
