It was work's children's Christmas Party this afternoon...So I'd been busy the last few days buying and wrapping 50 or so presents..
It's a sign of the times in London and in particular the area where I work about the changing demographics of the population that 49 of the 52 children at the party were Bangladeshi Muslim... Yet according to the last census, only 30% of the borough's population are Bangladeshi.!
There is a big divide in the population in East London with many White British people feeling alienated. I suppose when they see the photos from today in the local rag the pics will only reinforce their opinions that "everything is done for them, but not for us"...!!!
But what can you do? This event was heavily advertised as a children's Christmas party, was free, and yet only kids from 2 non-Muslim families came along...! Back to the drawing board..!!!
Anyhow - on to today's pic... This was taken after the party at a sub-zero Canary Wharf where I popped into on the way home for some grub... Brrrr bloody cold so thankful that my Arctic coat's good to -30.!
Wonderful capture and it looks absolutely freezing! I'm cold over here in the states at 41 degrees F - ha ha. I'm sure you're laughing. I love the 'fog' and the blue lights on the tree, both add to the cold feel.
Wow, it looks like a scene from a sci fi film! Glad the party went ok but shame about the turnout, the people that will moan are the ones that won't do anything to change the things they don't like!
@toast Ha.. Goodman's (the eletical company) use to sponsor Pompey... Their tag line was "Not just Goodmen, but Great Men"... What a load of bollocks :-)
wonderful shot, you can nearly feel the cold from it. Love the lights. I am 'volunteered' t take the Santa photos this Sunday on the work party, wish me luck, esp as I am out the night before:(
Love the fog coming in as you really do feel the chill in this shot. Love your city captures. It is all about a sense of community and the Bangladeshi's seem to own it, everyone needs to take ownership and get involved. My two cents worth! Ha, not that you asked!!
I understand what you mean about feeling frustrated about the turnout to the party, but like you say - what can you do? Very difficult.
The comments about changing demographics are very apropos. it is a difficult thing to wonder about and deal with.
Get back into the warmth!
