I bought some close up filters last week and it's taken me this long to get them out of the packet! I've had a bit of a play this evening and I'm quite impressed. They'll be fun to try out and are certainly a lot cheaper than a new macro lens.
This rose is not the most pristine you've ever seen, I'm sure, but it'll look a lot better to you when I say it is the last bloom of my valentine flowers. A rose staying beautiful for a month?- not bad going, huh?
I hope you'll all forgive me dedicating this to my lovely Dad who has been quite poorly. In the family he voted for me to use a photo of this same bloom a month ago- better late than never, Dad!
The detail that you got is incredible! Usually with close up you lose some depth, but your focus is spot on, and I love it!! I hope your dad is feeling better soon! He will LOVE this photo! =) Never apologize for dedicating a photo to a loved one! It makes the photo even that much more special!
@marybethosullivan I was certainly aware of losing depth of field but they'll be a whole new field to play with. Roll on the summer insects cos I'm ready for them now!
Thanks for your kind wishes for my Dad. He's doing alot better after a bout of pneumonia that had us all worried. It was lovely to be able to send him a flower!
@jo13 If I remember rightly, you're in London, Jo? If so, get yourself onto Amazon and you van get a set of 4 polaroid close up filters of diffenret strengths for £17.99. That works for me in terms of fun per pound in a way that £300 for a macro lens wouldn't! Maybe I'll do an investment in a lens in the future but this is going to be a whole new world to investigate for a nargain price in the meantime...
