Tuscan hitching post

Siena is very famous for its horses, twice a year is the “Palio”. The Palio is a horse race between the neighbourhoods (Quartiere) of town. The race is held in the Piazza del Campo at the centre of Siena. This piazza is paved in cobble stone and is on a slope, not an easy terrain for a horse race. For the Seinees, this is a very serious event, the whole town is uproar. It is not easy to get a ticket to see the race, one has to have good connections to get hold of one.
I have only seen it on tv.

Amazing capture and wonderful light. I was in Siena a couple of years ago, but did not see it with your eyes 😉

Fantastic picture ! Angelica I was born in Siena in the Contrada (not quartiere!!!) del Drago and I have seen the Palio many many times, but most of the times from inside the shell-shaped square. Not much to be seen if you are a tourist but that's the classical position for locals. And it's free!

@caterina Thank you Catarina for telling me, I didn’t know, it was called Contrada. I was told by my friends here, to not even try to go to the Palio, if I don’t know anyone, to get me in, I never tried then. Oh, you are originally from Siena and not Verona, do you come down here sometimes to see your family?
