Glen Iris wetlands

A glorious walk along the Gardiners Creek valley on a sunny Spring day. Water birds abound in these wetlands: ducks, several species of heron, swamp hens and grebes to name just a few.

This is a relatively recent reclamation of a creek that had over time been turned into an unsightly drain. In 2016, the project won in one of the categories of the Victorian Premier's Sustainability Awards, and won in the Local Government category of the United Nations Association of Australia World Environment Day Awards.

On this site there are some photos of what it looked like in 2009 in the early days of reclamation: https://www.u3ahawthorn.org.au/wetland.html
