Reaching for the light

'Women of pearling' monument, Broome WA, honouring the contribution of women to the pearling industry, particularly Aboriginal women who were exploited as divers, especially through the terrible practice of 'blackbirding'.

The statue is on the shore of Yawaru Nagulagun (Roebuck Bay) where the pearling luggers used to lay up.

Beautiful shot

When I was taking this I was trying to imagine coming up through the water after free diving and with a load of pearl shells and reaching for the sunlight above through the water.

Thanks for all your comments.
