£1.33

66p is standing charge.
If the excess is 15 or 20p, I can/have tolerate/d it - but this is ridiculous.
The outside light is energy intensive and was on and off all night with Storm Amy's blustering through the foliage that I had not moved yesterday.
So up the step-stool with an improvised cover for the sensor I went.
And - as I made my way out in the dark - and wafted my arms around (in the dark) - it seems to have worked.
EDIT I was smug too soon - had a quick look out, and the light was on (but at least I looked.) Wasn't heavy-handed enough with the gorilla tape (after all, I do want the light working ordinarily).
I've now just crumpled a double thickness of baking foil around the whole thing, tucking it under and behind and hope it's tight enough not to catch the wind.
That's expensive wind

@30pics4jackiesdiamond Yes! If I had a little turbine, things would be different!
I'm just updating the text.

Can you not just switch it off???
October 4th, 2025
@30pics4jackiesdiamond that would be nice, but it doesn't seem to work like that and I have no instructions and no name on the unit.
I did see a tip yesterday when I was researching proper covers about switching it on and off quickly, so I'll look into that more thoroughly.
It would be nice if there was something technical - rather than just me!! :-)

@anniesue I can turn ours off there's an indoor switch. I'm sorry you cant

@30pics4jackiesdiamond I'm sorry too!! (I can turn it on from inside so it stays on all the time, which is useful when I'm going to be walking up from the village in the dark, because our road has no streetlights :-)

Oh my goodness, that's terrible!

How great that you are able to see all the time what energy is being used.

@busylady bit of a shock! Anyway, the foil worked last night, so now on with finding a proper way to deal with it! :-)

@seacreature and on another setting on the In Home Display we can see what each piece of equipment uses per hour - though lots of things you don't have on for a whole hour of course

@anniesue Wow, that's incredible! For me it's all guesswork how much each appliance is using.

@seacreature I bet there's something on line - but it is interesting to see. Recently, I had to have a new kettle and instead of 2p for 2 mugs, it costs 3p because it's got "rapid boil" ie more watts.
