This is a concept foreign to me. How do watergates work? Is that going to stop water flooding into the property and big roll up door behind?

@seacreature essentially that's it. The concrete wall and the gate mean the water needs to be 3 feet higher to top the defences - and there is a gap to the left so flood water can escape down a steep bank into the river
