Cobra?

I couldn't help thinking of a cobra snake, when I saw this leaf on the European smoketree (Latin name is Cotinus coggygria) in our garden. During summer these leaves are a rich deep purple colour, but now it's fall, and they have all started to dry out and loose their colour.
