Emmer wheat by atchoo

Emmer wheat

Today I used the flour grinder for the first time (we purchased it a couple of days ago, https://365project.org/atchoo/365/2018-10-30 ). When we purchased it we also purchased several bags of wheat and rye grain, and one of them is emmer wheat (or hulled wheat) which is a type of awned wheat.
Emmer wheat was one of the first crops domesticated in the Near East, and it was widely cultivated in the ancient world - now it's a relict crop in regions of Europe and Asia.

Fun fact about emmer wheat:
Emmer wheat were part of the last meal of the Grauballe Man - he is a well know bog body, that was uncovered from a peat bog in 1952 near the village of Grauballe in Jutland, Denmark. The body is one of the most exceptionally preserved bog bodies in the world, and it dates back to the late 3rd century BC, during the early Germanic Iron Age.
Based on the evidence of his wounds, he was most likely killed by having his throat slit. His corpse was then deposited in the bog, where his body was naturally preserved for over two millennia. Actually he was so well preserved that the excavators were able to succesfully take his fingerprints. In 1955 the body went on display at the Moesgaard Museum near Aarhus, where it can still be seen today.
