Red Admiral - Vanessa atalanta There is a small resident population in the British Isles, which gets topped up every year with migrants arriving in May and June from central Europe. This was taken on the river bank near my work.
I don't think I can remember seeing so many and such a variety of butterfly's as there seem to be this year.
Beautiful and fav. The admiral is like the migrant birds they fly all the way across th Alps to the south from Germany. I think this is an unbelieveable achievement for such a little insect
