I visited my husband's construction site right next to our house and this butterfly was caught inside. I collected a flower for her to sit on and she was so happy that she just stayed there while I took lots of photos and then flew away.
Thanks to @girlie for identifying her as Polyura sempronius or the Tailed Emperor
Wow! Lucky you that she sat for you .... I've tried numerous times and just before I focus - prrrrffff - it's gone. Beautiful pic - well done on making it to PP.
Actually looks very much like the Tailed Emperor if you look at http://www.flickr.com/photos/14573091@N03/3117154564
This is the common name for the Polyura sempronius (the P. pyrrhus hasn't been identified in Australia). Just got the latest Butterflies of Australia volume today. Our butterflies are generally unique because of geographical isolation.
@girlie You are right Robin, when I looked it up earlier, I didn't realise it was sempronius, I only noticed that it was Polyura but I did see it was the Tailed Emperor. Thank you very much for letting me know!
@specky That's a great thing to do... and you will always have a photo opportunity in your own garden :)
@poggy1818 Thank you as always Dana. Come on over, we're a pretty friendly lot ;-)
@girlie I haven't Robin, I tried to find it, I guess it's a swallowtail but I really don't know my butterflies at all.
@thebluegnu That is usually the way it is for me too, this was just my lucky day. And thanks.
@attraversi That's what I like to think Stephanie ;-)
Thanks again everyone for looking!

@mrangryuk Thanks so much Bob, making someone smile is tops on my list :-)
