This butterfly has been in my garden for weeks now. Most days I try to get a shot of her but she only keeps her wings open for a second. She seemed to be sunning herself so I took the opportunity for a quick snap. It's still not great but probably as good as I'm going to get.
A great capture; they are so tricky. The reason they open and close their wings like this sometimes is for display purposes, trying to attract a mate. It's the only time we really get to have a chance at a good photo, unless we catch them laying eggs.
Lovely colours. you're so good at getting these shots. I have spent such a long time chasing round after butterflies in my garden but still haven't managed to get one :o) xx
@psychographer I was the same Lisa, they are so quick but every now and then I manage to get a couple of shots. You will eventually catch one I'm sure :)
@murnane The colours just light up with a bit of sun on them, quite amazing.
You guys have such a wonderful array of butterflies! I'm pretty sure I've only seen a few kinds around here (with the exception of at the zoo when they have their special butterfly exhibits). That blue is so pretty!
@poggy1818 I have to admit that I thought we only had one or two different ones as well until I started actually taking notice. I have to thank 365 for opening my eyes :) Thanks again!
@grimbo @meadow @difeeney The colours were almost iridescent in the sun. Di, I snapped 3 shots and she was gone.
@girlie They certainly are tricky Robin, there has been many hours spent trying to catch this one.
