@girlie - I was going to say to Sheralee that she will make our southern friends a little envious as these Blue Winged (white eyed) Kookaburras are just a north Queensland thing. Lovely birds indeed.
Did you know the Laughing Kookaburra is an introduced specie to WA, and considered a pest in some parts?
@bobfoto Yes, WA has got a completely different fauna and flora setup and it's not surprising the kooka is a foreigner. When I lived in WA (many moons ago) there was a bounty on all sorts of birds, mostly introduced ones like the starling, that had arrived there from the east. People were making a bit of money out of handing in the bodies.
@bobfoto@girlie I didn't realise they were only in the north, we are lucky to have them, I think they're beautiful. How could anyone not love the Laughing Kookaburra?!
@girlie@bella_ss - there is a $1 bounty on Indian Mynas in Cairns. Everyone loves a Laughing Kook except a few Crabs in WA it seems. I have seen both species of Kook in my garden at the same time and that is cool!
I love this bird. We have two in the Aquatic Birds building of Bronx Zoo and when they start making noise it transports me to the jungle. I know it should transport me to Australia but many sound effects people who worked on Tarzan movies fixed that sound as a jungle sound for me in my youth.
@bronxeddie Hi Eddie, is it the Blue-Winged you have and not the Laughing Kookaburra? Either one is a beautiful bird but the laugh is quite distinctive on the other fellow.

But I do like the Spangled Kookaburra of PNG.
