I've never tried tilt-shift, but this is so fun! I think you mastered the area of focus perfectly! I was on a two week vacation visiting my daughter and granddaughter in California, so I fell behind too. I thought about Robin's advice above and then covered the top and right side of the photo with paper to see a cropped version. It did look good, but I also like the buildings in the background. I wouldn't crop out the line of blue (garbage cans?) The curve of them is awesome.
