For my Get Pushed challenge Northy asked me to "focus on using light and shadow when composing your shot". I had hoped to do some more but didn't get time.
@northy Here's my shot for your challenge Northy. You really made me think and I had a few ideas to try but only just got home late yesterday (Saturday) so I ran out of time.
@annied I know it seems like I am talking behind people's backs here and I should have the conversation where other people can voice their opinion but I'm just a chicken at heart and don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. I totally agree about the TP, the PP and the TT!! They are all popularity contests and some people, I'm sure you know who they are... fav every single photo they look at. They are either fishing for favs to get on the TT or they are truly generous people (probably the latter). I feel now that the best way to enjoy this site is to join in the challenges. Don't get me wrong I will still be thrilled if my shots make it to the TT but I don't want to feel that that is what I am here for. I really wish like National Geographic there were photos chosen each day and week judged purely on the merit of the photo and not on the popularity. I have discussed it with my family a few times now, I think there should be a limit to how many favs we can give in a day. If you truly love a photo and you have used up all your favs then you come back tomorrow and fav it. I couldn't continue this conversation over there anyway because I'm not receiving notifications on that thread.
@bella_ss I wasn't getting notifications either - and I understand the moving it to somewhere else too - I am just a terrible stickler for fairness and things being done the right way - it is a real bug bear of mine - I always look at the TT and never expect to get there - this week I actually thought I might but wasn't surprised I hadn't - I somehow ended up looking at Chantals first and saw the number of favs looked at the first place and wrote the something iffy comment.
I then looked at the others around it and got even more frustrated because my image from the 1st of Oct had more favs than all the ones from 13 down except Chantals so I wondered how on earth it was worked out and figured there were probably others like me out there with a high number of favs that for some reason didn't get there - for the most part I am not fussed about all of that as I like the social side and looking at everyones images and learning new things but the wrongness of it really annoys me
@annied Oh darn Annie, that shot certainly deserved to be there but the reason that happened is because of the time difference. I've had it happen to me too where I posted on a Wednesday but is technically included in Tuesday's count because the count starts and finishes in US time. Very frustrating I know! For that reason maybe we shouldn't be seeing things in our own local time?
@bella_ss and therein lies my point about the formula that decides - it should incorporate all variables if it is to be a true representation - so from now on I cannot look at the TT as a representation of the top photos for the week because I know there are ones out there that should be included - I will just comment on the photos of my friends if I have not already done so
@bella_ss I believe there are few out there who understand process and post accordingly LOL I still believe that if there really are 1200-1500 active members at a time then the same people could and should not be consistently in the TT - statistically it seems wrong - although I am no mathematician - prefer linguistics and art Ha ha
@annied Yep, definitely no mathematician here either Annie and I have also decided that I don't want to be influenced about whether or not my photo will appear on the TT. It's very easy to get carried away with that and lose sight of why I actually joined 365 in the first place. Like you, I want to improve my photography and enjoy the friendly people of 365 like yourself :)
@bella_ss exactly I post what I like and what makes me feel good - and as you know converse and ramble and chat hahaha - I was a little excited at the thought of TT for that pic because I was really pleased with the way it turned out but everyone liked it so that was really cool
@annied Yep, so sorry it didn't make it because it really should have! I've been off having a couple of wines with my elderly mum... hope I'm talking sense :)
@bella_ss hahaha It could have been us but surprisingly I find only a handful of people actually read the blurbs or the comment thread - they pop in comment and go - I am such a dag I love reading all the stories and comments I come across
