Beetle juice? by bella_ss

Beetle juice?

My poinciana tree has dozens of elephant/rhinoceros beetles on it. I've never seen it happen before but after consulting Mr Google I was told it is their tree of choice. They feed on the young shoots. For some reason native bees seem to be hanging around them too, there are a few in this shot.
Interesting how they are lined up.

Really beautiful.

This is a beautiful shot, but for some reason creepy crawly thingies, especially in groups, always make me itch. :-)

You've changed your name!! They are weird looking beetles aren't they.
January 13th, 2015
Interesting raid on the Poinsietta, I wonder if it is due to the dry weather you are having or maybe they are going to higher ground with an innate knowledge of big rains ahead. Great shot BTW :)

Great detail!

Incredible shot!

@terryliv I thought maybe it was time to use my full name although I don't think there is another Sheralee on here.
January 13th, 2015
Well, who knew?! I will have to go and check out some other Poinciana trees. How amazing.
January 13th, 2015
Great capture Sheralee.Christine says that they like our tamarind too and their lavae are under the leaves and pods on the ground. (Large grubs)
January 14th, 2015
@peterlgrave Oh, I haven't noticed them in the tamarind but I have seen the grubs in the mulch at the base.

@hermann I would like to think that is so Sally (the big rains that is), although I know if it happens we will want it to stop raining... never happy :)

January 14th, 2015
interesting! congrats on the pop page. it seems like that's hard to do for the old timers with a certain number of followers who are "following" but not really since they've left the project.
January 15th, 2015
@sunnygreenwood You're right Anne, it's much harder these days.
January 15th, 2015
