Old faithful back in action ! Ian my plumber called yesterday morning with his bag of tools ! and within a few minutes the leak in the joint of the cold water supply and the machine pipe was fixed - simply a perished washer which was soon replaced !! So all in order once again - and the afternoon spent in attacking the pile of washing ! and not having to buy a new washing-machine has saved me hundreds of pounds ! A start of a stress free week I hope !
You've brought back memories of when I was a child. I am the eldest of six children, can imagine the amount of washing! I remember in the early 60s my mother stood over an open top washing machine lifting out the washing and putting it through a mangle. It was an all day event. I like your shot, especially the text giving it a Ta-DAAA!! moment.
@gamelee Sometimes nice to look back on how things were in our childhood ! Washing was certainly a day long job especially in the hand wash days with the big mangle with its wooden rollers , then the top washing machine and the mangle , onto the twin-tub and now everything so automated ! Sometimes it is good to look back and reminisce ! Thanks for remining me how lucky we ae today !
Good to get these things done Beryl I am getting a list of jobs that need doing from a dripping tap to a new extractor/light in the shower pull cord broken in the bathroom as well. Hubby used to do all these jobs now we need to get someone in .
@wendyfrost - It is a pain trying to find someone to do these odd jobs around the home Like you we were very self efficient - we never had workmen in when my husband was alive ( except for electricity and gas !) and I have always been quite capable at doing odd jobs around the house until recent years ! But these days it is finding someone to turn up let alone do the job - they do not like small jobs !
@maggiemae Washing days I remember they were called. It was only the other day I was telling my oldest son (aged 32) about, no mobile phones and using a phone box, using a choke when starting a car, I remember seeing my grandad starting a car with a starting handle. I won't go on.
Nothing better than a handy craftman.
